 | A research paper requires both a works cited and bibliography page, which showcase the sources you have used in your research and in your paper. A works cited page is a list of the bibliographic information from only the sources that are actually cited in your paper. A bibliography is a list of the bibliographic information from all the sources you researched and took notes. Both should be easy to compose as you have already collected all of the bibliographic information during the note taking process. |
To formalize the list in proper MLA format for the works cited page, you must:
1. Identify the sources you actually cited in your paper.
2. Alphabetize the sources by author’s last name. If there is not an author, alphabetize by the first main word in the title.
3. Begin a new page titled Works Cited.
4. Double space throughout the document.
5. Begin each entry on the left margin. The following lines of each entry must be indented.
6. Punctuate carefully. Make sure you are underlining titles and using commas, semicolons, and periods in the appropriate places.
To formalize the list in proper MLA format for the bibliography page, you must:
1. Identify all sources researched for your paper.
2. Repeat steps 2-6 from above. Just make sure you title this page Bibliography.
